Mounted ArtPrint Linoleum
(for Unmounted ArtPrint Linoleum, click here.)
ArtPrint Linoleum is permanently bonded to a high quality wooden substrate chosen for its uniform thickness. The low profile and substantial weight of these blocks gives you great control while carving or hand burnishing. The routed edge keeps your fingers away from the inked surface while you are handling the block.
ArtPrint Linoleum is made in the Netherlands and it is specifically made for printmaking. It is very easy to carve. At the same time, it is stiff enough to hold fine detail. Carbon paper, permanent felt pens, pencil marks and ink from Inkjet Transfer Paper all show up very well on its smooth, medium gray surface.
Linoleum is easily carved with any of McClain's woodblock carving tools. Keep a Leather Honing Block handy because linoleum dulls tools faster than wood does.
The 5/8" high blocks are easy to use on an etching press and with a little shimming, are letterpress friendly too. The size of the block refers to the size of the linoleum, not the size of the substrate.
The blocks are unaffected by solvents like Gamsol. If you are cleaning up with soap and water, waterproof the base to keep it from warping by painting it with varnish. Spar varnish works well.
To prevent warping, blocks should be cleaned and stored flat in a dry place.
