Resingrave® 3/16" Plate
These hard, white epoxy resin engraving blocks give the same precise, finely detailed and clean edged marks of traditional end-grain boxwood at a fraction of the cost.
Fine, clean edged lines can be cut into Resingrave with perfect control of direction and width. Unlike other plastics on the market, gravers will not skid or jerk on Resingrave, nor will they leave tailings clinging stubbornly at the ends of cuts. It actually carves more smoothly than some boxwood, encouraging a fluid style. Resingrave also resists bruising and is easy to repair with off-the-shelf epoxy glue.
Never use woodblock or linocut tools on Resingrave as it will damage these tools. Carve with standard wood engraving tools or rotary bits (Dremel® tools).
Print with an Etching Press
Resingrave is 3/16" (4mm) high so it is etching press friendly. Use only enough pressure to obtain a clean, strong impression. The use of very heavy pressure is unnecessary and you run the risk of fracturing the resin plate that is glued to the fiberboard base.
Also, the thickness of the plate can vary up to 1/2mm (1/64") so check the pressure each time you print a new plate.
Use for Relief or Intaglio
The surface of Resingrave is toothy enough to hold ink for relief printing. By polishing the surface, the plates can be inked and then easily wiped to make an intaglio print. Instructions are available at "Basic Instructions > Blocks and Plates".
